Who we are

OPEnE (Organization of People for Engagement and Enterprise) is an organization that works towards supplementing the educational supports and community capacity building in the war-effected regions in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

Where we work

OPEnE is active in the more rural and remote areas of Mannar District in the Northern Province. These surroundings were heavily affected during the war.

Nearly three decades of civil war in Sri Lanka between government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) devastated large parts of the island. The education sector suffered tremendously from the war, especially in the conflict zones in the North and the East. The disruption to education has resulted in multiple generations lagging significantly behind the rest of the country.

We want to empower individuals through knowledge, skills, tools and networks to make sustainable changes in their own lives and the lives of their community.

A pluralistic Sri Lanka where all are empowered and included.

Our Values

  • Human dignity
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Good governance
  • Participation
  • Creativity and innovation
